Legal Scholarship
The Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas is a trial court. Rulings made by its judges are subject to appeal to higher courts. When that occurs, the trial judge must write a formal opinion giving the legal basis for his or her decision.
Although we have an appellate division in our office, I have generally handled my own appeals. It has relieved the appellate division of work and kept my writing skills sharp. I am glad I have done so.
If elected, I will have to use those writing skills regularly. I have included on this website samples of the briefs I have filed in various appellate courts including the Supreme Court of the United States, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
